The Courier-Gazette, Rockland, ME -
"CHARLES A. CAVANAUGH
Charlie Cavanaugh died doing what he liked best; taking part in the affairs of his government.
The Rockport man with the booming bass voice which was known to upwards of four decades
of legislators at Augusta reached the end of his mortal road as he prepared to take up his role
as a ballot clerk in his home town Tuesday morning.
Not a man to give too much attention to the accumulation of worldly goods, he gathered in
countless friendships which have endured through the years. Members of one legislature
after the other came to depend upon him until he became somewhat of a legend.
The committees which he served as a clerk were well ordered and his services were valued by them.
Although advancing years forced his retirement he still returned to Augusta during sessions as
frequently as his health permitted. Though others have and will take his place, his passing takes
a bit of the color from the State House scene, but never the legend which will remain his alone."
Charles loved doing needlework. Steven Desy still has some of the samples.

Another newspaper obit...
"He was Republican State Committeeman for many years; food inspector for the State of Maine
over 30 years (Steve remembers him telling about all the maggots in the blueberries in Maine );
in 1937 he became clerk of the Sea and Shore Fisheries Committee; served as committee clerk
in the Legislature; and in 1953 became document clerk; and prior to his retirement he presided
at the checkroom at the State House. Mr. Cavanaugh had been a deputy sheriff of Knox County
at one time. He was an estate caretaker; farmer, and strawberry grower for a number of years.
He was a 50 year member of the Camden Commandery; and a member of the Knox County Three
Quarter Century Club. He was born May 25, 1880, at Vallalboro, the son of James and Carrie
Barton Cavanaugh. He graduated from Oak Grove Seminary, Vallalboro; Hebron Academy, and
the University of Maine...
Funeral services will be held at the Rockport Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Carl Small
officiating. Interment will be in the WEst Rockport Cemetery."
